Secrets of Playboy : The Playboy Legacy (2022)

Made for A&E, airing January 24th in the US.
Season 1. Episode 1.
The story:  Hugh Heffner left a confusing legacy for the people that knew him.
As time went on, many saw the inconsistencies of what they otherwise believed.
A businessman at a young age, he was 27 when he became editor and publisher of Playboy magazine.
Born and raised in the 20s of Chicago,  he owned the original Playboy mansion there.
In 1953, Hef launched the first edition of Playboy and it took off. By the 70s it was selling 7 million copies a month.
In the 50s and 60s, Playboy played a part in the 1st amendment, civil rights, freedom of speech, and social concerns that weren't being addressed in America.
The show 'Playboys Playhouse' aired in 1959 and the first Playboy club opened to the public in 1960, where blacks and whites mingled.
This was a time of segregation but Hef didn't believe in that.
No one else was doing such things.
Hef considered himself an advocate for feminist rights, but many would argue that.
In 1975, he bought the newly renovated "Shangri La" Playboy mansion in Los Angeles, the most popular property he owned.
There, lots of stars, models, and parties ensued.
A lot of open sexuality among the playmates staying at the mansion was not unusual and all the girls wanted to be Hef's number one.
Glamorous and luxurious. Hef considered his home a Disneyland for adults.
Hef cared for his friends and ignored his help, taking his rules with them seriously.
Everyone believed he was charming, generous, humble, with total acceptance of everyone, which people loved.
Hef conveyed his philosophy as individual freedom for everyone.
But that wasn't exactly always true, especially for the people who worked for him and thought they would be taken care of.
