Dracula ; Bram Stoker's (1992)

This version of the well-known vampire tale is my favorite for the main reason that it is by far the closest adaptation of the original book, and that it focuses on a theme that most of the other renditions miss...Dracula is a LOVE STORY. The tale of Dracula isn't "Oooooh! Vampire! Scary!"...it is a tale of the sorrow and depth of eternal, undying love and the lengths one would go to to take back what was once lost. The Count goes to any length to attempt to regain the vision of his lost love no matter what it may cost him, and being the romantic that I am I can truly embrace this since love is most definitely worth any risk one might have to take. The acting, with the notable exception of Keanu Reeves (whoa...), was wonderful, as was the score and presentation. I would definitely recommend this film to fans of the novel, as it is about as close as Hollywood has gotten, So sink your teeth into this rendition of Dracula.

The Story;
An attorney is held captive by his intended client as the monstrous Count falls in love with the lawyer's betrothed, who is the spitting image of his lost love from hundreds of years earlier...The undead lord treks to England to reclaim the apparent reincarnation of his fallen wife, going to any length to attain her.

Stars Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder, Anthony Hopkins, Keanu Reeves, Bill Campbell, Sadie Frost, Tom Waits.

Watchmen (2009)

Okay, for a story that was billed as "unfilmable" Zack Snyder made one hell of a movie. I am of the firm belief that most of the people who hated this movie were either those who were expecting another X-Men film or were just haters and weren't going to like it no matter what. If you've NOT seen this movie yet, understand that it isn't so much of a hero versus villain movie as it is a social commentary movie. There are tons of things in this movie to THINK about...not just gorge on popcorn and soda. The biggest aspect of this film is that it asks, what would OUR world be like if there were superheroes in it, especially one with near-godlike powers...how would it affect our life on Earth? What would you do with such powers, and where do you draw the lines of how to use it? There are no characters in this movie, save Rorschach, who is morally black and white. They are all shades of grey in their own ways and it makes them more believable...more human. Watch this movie with a thought toward deeper themes and ideas and I can't imagine it not be satisfying.
So definitely, by all means, watch the Watchmen.

The Story;
In a downtrodden alternate 1985, once celebrated masked heroes are now outlawed by the government.
When one of these former heroes is murdered, the investigation by his former comrades reveals a deeper
more ominous plot than a simple matter of saving their brethren from a superhero killer...

Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Patrick Wilson Directed by Zack Snyder
