AMC Visionaries : Eli Roth's History of Horror - Zombies (2018)

Made for AMC , airing October 14th in the US.
Season 1. Episode 1.
The story : Right now is the time of the zombies.
Today zombie movies and TV shows are everywhere , but that wasn't always the case.
There has been about four decades of zombie movies and since then the AMC TV show 'The Walking Dead' has become one of the most popular.
Movie directors Eli Roth ('Cabin Fever' (2002), Greg Nicotero ('The Walking Dead' (2012 - 2018) and Rob Zombie ('House of 1,000 Corpses' (2003) are together to talk shop on zombie films.
George Romero's 'Night of the Living Dead' (1968) is the one containing the main template of zombie rules for all the zombie movies which followed.
There were many zombie movies before 'Night of the Living Dead' because zombies have always been reinvented.
'White Zombie' (1932) , 'I Walked With A Zombie' (1943) and of course the ultimate early zombie film , 'Frankenstein' (1931) to name a few.
In the 80s we seen no shortage of zombies.
From Michael Jackson's music video for his hit song 'Thriller' (1983) , directed by John Landis to Umberto Lenzi's 'Nightmare City' (1980).
In the 90s , many people were influenced and inspired by the zombie-ridden video game Resident Evil , which also became a movie in 2001.
By the 2000s , we were seeing zombies in comedy , as well as zombies who picked up the pace.
Zombie movies mentioned?
George Romero's 'Dawn of the Dead' (1978)
Lucio Fulci's 'Zombie' (1979)
Stuart Gordon's 'Re-Animator' (1985)
George Romero's 'Day of the Dead' (1985)
Tom Savini's 'Night of the Living Dead' (1990)
Danny Boyle's '28 Days Later' (2002)
Edgar Wright's 'Shaun of the Dead' (2004)
Juan Carlos Fresnadillo's '28 Weeks Later' (2007)
Mark Forester's 'World War Z' (2013)

Won't You Be My Neighbor? (2018)

Released June 29th in the US.
Filming location(s) unknown.
The story : In the early 50s , Fred Rogers was in his senior year of college.

Ready to become a minister , Fred decided to put his future of attending the seminary on hold to do a children's program for a local TV station , WQED in Pittsburgh , Pennsylvania.
No one wanted to do a children's program at the time.
Fred felt that there should be one. He found that TV would be a wonderful tool for teaching.
Children's Corner was an educational program. Fred produced it. The show was filmed live , so when something caused an unexpected pause in the show one day , Fred introduced a puppet someone had given him to fill in the blank spot.
Ground breaking idea.
While being a student of theology , Fred became interested in working with children.
For counseling purposes , Fred studied under the supervision of child psychologist Margaret McFarland who worked at the college he attended.
Then became Mister Rogers Neighborhood , a safe place to discuss feelings.
On the very first week the show aired , February of 1968 , the show touched on real world issues.
Every show became an effort of getting a message across.
When Nixon became President in 1969 , he was all for canceling funding for TV shows he felt were unnecessary.
That same year , Fred addressed senate , namely Senator Pastore , on the importance of keeping the funding for public educational television.
In six minutes time , Fred convinced Senator Pastore that funding for the public broadcasting system that was making and airing Mister Rogers Neighborhood , was an important and intelligent step to take.
From that point on , Mister Rogers and his neighborhood took flight.
