The story : In 1973 , a baby elephant was captured in Africa.
She was named Tyke and sent to America to be trained as a circus elephant.
Tyke was trained by many trainers who used various cruel methods.
Not until a trainer named Tyrone became Tykes loving trainer did anyone use something less than hurt to train her.
Tyrone knew Tyke was a problem elephant when it came to using her in performances , as she often fled.
But when Tyrone left the company who owned Tyke and a new trainer who did not know her stepped into his place , things got really bad very quick.
By 1994 , the new trainer and Tyke were both dead.
This began a huge campaign in Honolulu , where Tyke and the trainer were killed - to ban the use of live animals in traveling shows.
