The story: Mara is the daughter of strict preacher, Lemuel.
Their religion involves believers to be cleansed of all evil by handling snakes...
When Mara accepts the wedding proposal of strict believer Garret, things seem well to most of the believers.
But Mara is with child and the child is not Garret's but rather Augies.
Augie is the son to a couple of believers but he does not and that makes him stand out of the group.
When Augie learns that Mara is pregnant with his child he tries fitting into the group.
But while being initiated as a believer, things go horribly wrong.
