The story : In November 1978 , San Francisco Congressman Leo Ryan escorted 18 people , including journalists and family members of people in Jonestown to Guyana for a visit.
Jim Jones schooled his followers on how they should behave for the visit and what to say but he still was not happy about any of it.
While the time spent in Jonestown , the Congressman spoke to many who lived there.
He understood that they were mostly happy to be there. But there were some that asked for his help in leaving.
When the Congressman broke the news of some of the Jonestown followers wanting to leave , it angered Jim Jones even more.
All Jim was trying to do by keeping his peoples' lifestyle out of the media was being manipulated by the visit and it had to stop somewhere.
