The story : It is 1972 , California.
Young Jack and his little brother Dylan live with their eccentric dad John.
John is a tv show host.
He also has a bit of a drinking issue.
But that doesnt stop him from loving and taking care of his kids , it only gets him into bits of trouble here and there.
Things seem like they would be so much better for them if their mom/wife were still alive , which causes Jack and John much heartache.
Nothing seems to straighten John out though until a traumatic experience causes Dylan to withdraw.
