The story : In 1988 , Greenpeace activist Rachel Kramer is in attendance when an oil company wins the right to drill in Alaska's Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.
At the same time , Adam Carlson - a tv news reporter and Rachel's ex , stumbles onto a family of gray whales stuck in the pressure ridge of the Arctic Circle in Barrel , Alaska.
With the help of Rachel and the world news picking up the story for a change of pace , Adam's whale story gets nationwide attention.
Now the plan is to get together , with the oil company who has the contract for drilling , the National Guard , the locals , the news and everyone who cares about the whales welfare and help the whales get out of their deadly prison.
