The story: Darling is an unstable young woman...
She has recently taken the job of house-sitting the oldest house in New York, a house that has a sinister history, although she doesn't know all of that just yet.
Speaking with the lady of the house, Darling is told about the last caretaker committing suicide in the house.
This news makes Darling even more unstable on top of being paranoid.
The longer Darling stays in the house, the more she doesn't trust it which it sends her right over the edge.
