The story: In the late 1970s a young, lovely Canadian woman by the name of Dorothy Hoogstraten (later known as just Stratten) was living a small-town life with her mom, brother, and sister, attending her senior year of high school and working at the local Dairy Queen as a waitress.
One afternoon while working, Dorothy is approached by a male customer whose name is Paul Snider - a shady, fast-talking businessman who will try anything to make a buck, loves expensive cars, women and surely knows how to charm.
He approaches Dorothy, as he believes she is an unbelievable beauty and he soon sweet-talks and charms his way into her life.
The two quickly begin dating and become inseparable. Paul is buying his new girlfriend expensive gifts and paying her with many sweet compliments, including his nickname for her -The Queen.
Paul soon comes up with the idea to photograph Dorothy and try to get her photos published in Playboy magazine, believing that she is beautiful enough to make it and that in the end, she will make him a lot of money doing that.
To her surprise, Dorothy is hired to do a layout in Playboy magazine and appears inside and on the cover of the August 1979 issue, making her Miss August.
Dorothy now begins traveling, meeting many rich and famous people, staying at the Playboy mansion, making much money from all her photographs, becoming loved by many as she was one of the nicest people around and getting offers to do movies from many directors because of her beauty and personality.
Paul decides that the couple should be married, now that she is making a ton of money he wants to have a tie into it.
Against the advice of friends and business associates, Dorothy marries Paul with great hesitation - and quickly, from that point on, things become a lot more stressful in her relationship with Paul than she could have ever imagined.
When Paul becomes irate, violently jealous and controlling- as Dorothy is making more and more money in her career and spending more and more time with the rich and famous and without him, Paul begins to lose control.
Paul now feels that the control he'd once had over his wife, her money and all that he has done for her should make her unconditionally loyal to him. But when he starts feeling unattended to and deceived by Dorothy, believing that his wife will soon be leaving him high and dry, on account that she is now involved romantically with another man - a fast, downward spiral of destruction now comes into play, ending tragically in death.
