Released July 18th in the US.
Filmed entirely in California.
The story: A young woman named Nell has recently arrived in New York from Oregon to stay with her cousin Eddie, after being locked up in a mental institution for 3 years.
Eddie works as an elevator operator at a hotel, where he helps Nell find a job as a babysitter for a couple staying at the hotel.
Eddie is a bit worried about Nell, but she assures him she will be fine.
So Eddie goes about his job and tells Nell that he will check up on her from time to time during the night until his work shift is over, at that time he will keep her company.
Nell does fairly well with the child, reading her a short story and then just about insisting that the child goes to sleep, although the child continuously explains that she is not tired.
Nell begins daydreaming and soon finds herself trying on the lady whose child she is watchings' clothing, jewelry, and makeup.
When Eddie checks in on Nell, he finds her all dressed up and demands that she take the clothes off and put hers back on.
Nell tells him she will, but when he leaves the room again, she doesn't get a chance to change into her clothes before the telephone rings.
On the line is a man who is staying in the hotel , who has seen Nell through the window and - after having a bad night and being told to take a hike by the love of his life who works at the hotel, finds the sight of Nell interesting enough to make an effort to meet & talk with her.
At first, Nell is stunned by the man's approach, but she eventually invites him over.
When they meet, Nell basically puts on an act about herself, letting the man believe the room is hers and that she may be quite well off, wearing many diamonds.
At first, the man believes Nell, but then the child which she is watching walks out of her room and demands that Nell take her mothers' things off.
This enrages Nell as she feels the child has caused her problems, and now the man she has just found - who may very well be the one for her - might possibly just walk out of her life for good.
Nell eventually gets the child back to bed and due to taking pity on her, the man continues to stay with her.
But the longer he stays, the more evident it becomes that there is something really wrong with Nell.
He also realizes that the woman that he loves - will be out of his life for good if he doesn't make an effort to regain her, which he realizes after listening to Nell tell him he actually has the qualities the woman he loves says he does not.
So the man stays with Nell for a while, until he tells her he has a date and he must go.
When he finally gets out of the room, Nell begins to lose all control and starts to hallucinate even more. She believes that the man whom she has just met is actually a man she was supposed to marry which has, in reality, past away.
After the child's mother returns to the room and Nell begins to squabble with her, Nell too leaves the room and wanders off throughout the hotel.
It takes the help of the man Nell has just met and the love of his life to bring Nell back to reality and out of her recurrent illusionary state.
