The story : A young woman named Caroline works as a caregiver in a hospital/senior home where everyone is supposed to give great care to their patients.
When a man she is caring for passes away , Caroline finds that the mans family doesn’t want anything to do with his death or his material things.
So Caroline decides , after getting the feeling that no one really cares as much as they should at her place of employment , to look for another job.
She finds in the newspaper a job for an in-home caregiver.
She applies and quickly gets an interview.
She travels to Louisiana to see the home , meet the employers and get interviewed by a man who is in charge of the homeowners financial business.
Caroline feels a bit out of place when the woman who will be employing her comes off a bit smug but after being talked into it by the financial business man , Caroline takes the job.
Her new employers are an older , married couple.
The woman is still able to care for her husband who recently had a crippling stroke , but seems to be in need of some extra help.
Along with his wife Caroline cares for the man with great consideration.
Caroline is told that the man had had his stroke after going into the attic of the house where no one other than him has seemed to have been able to get into.
Caroline soon realizes that there are strange things that are going on in the house and are somehow linked to what caused the man to have his stroke.
