The story: A high school student named Owen has been sent to a prep school because of bad behavior, to finish off his high school years.
As soon as he arrives, he meets a new friend.
This new friend has a group of very close friends, whom she introduces Owen to one night while the group of friends includes Owen in a little nighttime game they play together in an abandoned church.
The object of the game is to deceive all by making them believe each of them is telling the truth and not be found out.
After playing the game through to the end, Owen tells his new friend that he believes the game isn't as challenging as they all believe it is because they all know each other too well and to him, the game seems to be really easy.
So the two come up with a new game, basing it on a murder that had recently happened in the town where they are all attending school.
They set up every move the killer would make and what the killer would look like and send out many emails notifying as many people as they can of this killer - making him seem real and of a threat to anyone.
Soon their story is beginning to take effect, people at school and anyone else who received the email indeed believes there is a killer on the loose - everyone that is, except the friends from the group - they are all in on the plan.
But when Owen starts seeing that only he is being taunted about what he has done, he believes that there is a real killer - and that killer is after him.
