The story : Physicist Crawford Tillinghast is assisting Dr. Edward Pretorius with his experiments on the pineal gland.
It is said to be a way through to the sixth sense.
When having a breakthrough with their creation the Resonator , things go horribly wrong.
Tillinghast escapes and is put into an asylum for schizophrenics.
Psychiatrist Katherine McMichaels is working with the police on the case.
She believes that Tillinghast is not schizophrenic but rather telling the truth about the experiments and the accident that happened causing Dr. Pretorius to lose his life.
McMichaels gets the okay to work with Tillinghast and assists him in recreating his experiment to understand better exactly what occurred , unaware of how dangerous the results can be.
