The story : Lucas is a 14-year-old outcast.
He is so smart that he skipped a couple grades and goes to high school with older , much bigger teens.
Lucas doesn't really care about fitting in so when he meets 16-year-old Maggie during the last two weeks of summer before school starts , he fills her in on whose who and what to expect.
Namely , Lucas is interested in not conforming to fit in.
Shortly after school starts , Maggie gets to know popular jock Cappie , who happens to be the only senior who is nice to Lucas.
Maggie and Cappie fall for each other pretty quick and this angers Lucas.
Lucas believes that if he can be just like Cappie , Maggie will fall for him instead.
