The story: Nelson is studying to be a doctor at a Christian medical school.
After conducting his own experiments with death, Nelson believes he has stumbled upon a breakthrough in the life and death category…He can actually die, experience death and once again become the living.
He recruits some fellow students he knows and believes are the best at what they do to help him bring himself to a breathing state after cutting off any and all activity to his brain.
Nelson gets through the experiment with his skeptical friends along to witness the whole ordeal and everything seems well enough at first.
But what Nelson didn’t know is that he had conjured up something from the unknown as a result of his killing himself for a mere few minutes.
Seemingly like everything was just a miracle to experience, Nelson's friends now decide, one by one, that they too would like to go deep into the unknown of death for their own studies and knowledge.
Each friend goes through the same process as Nelson had, only every time each one goes under for longer than the one before them.
But the things, the bad things about the experience that Nelson didn’t tell his friends, begin to haunt them all as well.
One of the friends who tried to talk Nelson out of going through with the situation in the first place , experiences his own bad result from the experiment and begins to realize what it all means and what they can all do to keep from being haunted by all their closet demons that they cannot seem to shake and happen to feel guilty for.
