This movie was adapted to the big screen , inspired by a true story , written in a book by a retired doctor who owns all rights and evidences about a young German woman named Annaliese Michelle and the personal battle she endured with her experience of demonic possession, which ultimately took her young life in the late 70s.
This story is shown to us, as a present-day case, without any recollection of when it actually took place, so I will enlighten you - it was in the 70s, in fact, after the movie THE EXORCIST (1973) was released to the public.
Released September 9th in the US.
Filmed entirely in Canada.
The story: Emily Rose is a bright, young, happy and religious woman who goes away from her close-knit family to college on a scholarship.
Everything seems well for Emily at school until one weekend when she is alone in her dorm room without her roommate and is spending the night alone.
She is awoken at 3AM by something unseen and apparently attacked by the same unseen presence.
Emily has no idea what has happened to her but whatever it was it has scared the daylights out of her.
She begins seeing a doctor and is put on medication.
But the medication does not seem to help what has been happening to her at all, she is more than aware of this.
While she is put into a hospital for treatment and observation, she has yet another brutal experience but is let out of the hospital's care.
One evening , while scared to stay alone , Emily’s close friend witnesses a very unusual sight involving Emily.
Her friend phones her father and is told to bring her home.
Now that she is home everything that has been happening to her has not changed for the better , all of this happening to her while she is still on her prescribed medication.
So her family decides to call in her priest , as a last resort to try and help her.
