The story : In 1984 , Rick Wershe Jr. is 14-years-old.
He is living in the rundown town of Detroit , Michigan with his older sister , who has a drug problem and single dad , who looks to make money many different ways.
Rick's best friend is his dad and the two spend much time at gun shows.
Rick also helps his dad sell guns.
Eventually Rick finds out about some undercover FBI agents that are all over his dad.
But the FBI decides they can use Rick to their advantage instead to take down some big criminals in the area.
At first he agrees to helping them but when it gets too dangerous he decides to bail out.
By this time though he is in too deep.
With seemingly no choices left , Rick decides that the only way to get what he wants is to begin selling drugs on his own.
By 1988 , at the age of 17 , Rick finds himself in jail.
