The story : Mavis is the ghost-writer of a popular young adults book series.
She doesn't have much going on in her life other than drinking herself to sleep every night and doing just about whatever the hell she wants whenever she wants....
While trying to write her next chapter she happens to check her emails.
One of the emails in particular stands out. It is the birth announcement of Mavis' ex.
This drives her a little mad.
Mavis believes her ex and herself belong together and so she decides to take a trip to her hometown to see if she can get back together with her ex.
