Murder In the Heartland : The Search for Video X (2003)

Now, if I didn't know any better I would surely believe this is an actual documentary. I have to tell you, this really plays like a real-life story and incident. While I watched this, the thought never did cross my mind that I wasn't actually watching a documentary about these people. Very believable although I guess this is actually taken from the real-life story of 19-year-old Charles Starkweather and his 14-year-old girlfriend Caril Ann Fugate, whose crime spree went on from 1957 through 1958 in Nebraska and Wyoming. So, in that aspect, this is based on a true story I guess. Other than that, this isn't anything close to that truth.
This so-called new spoof on documentary storytelling referred to as ' faux cinema verite ' isn't exactly a favorite of mine. I find that it's very confusing and misleading.
Released July 30th in the US.
Filming location(s) unknown.
The story: Mislead young'en Dwayne Foote takes his God-fearing young girlfriend Darla Jean Stanton on the adventure of their lives.
All of a sudden, out of the blue the two decide to go on a crime/killing spree through three states. The twos crimes go from holding up convenience stores, to murdering families and robbing banks taking hostages along.
We shall hear from the people that thought they knew them or about them. Their families and friends alike.
But then, when the filmmakers realize that while the two were on their adventure, they were videotaping their actions.
This said video is referred to as "video x" and it seems many are going to the greatest lengths to keep the video from being acknowledged as existing.
