This film is based on the biography written by Tina Turner along with some help from at the time MTV V.J. Kurt Loder.

The story: A young woman by the name of Anna Mae Bullock from Nutbush, Tennessee lives a quiet existence with her single mother and sister.
Anna Mae sings with an extraordinary voice in her church choir on the weekends, which she really loves to do - but she doesn't seem to realize the impact her singing has on other people...that is until one evening, during a live show at a local nightclub where her sister takes her to see a band that is all the rage.
Anna Mae gets up on stage to sing at the open mic and ends up impressing the band, namely its leader - Ike Turner.
Ike is soon perusing Anna Mae, talking her mother into allowing her to record music with him and his band.
The result is a good one at first - Anna Mae becomes Tina Turner, traveling the world with her husband and their band, thus making a very large name for herself.
But when her husband becomes jealous and abusive towards her , she finds herself having to gain the strength to just go on doing what she's always loved to do...sing.
