The story: A brave, hardworking Gloucester fishing crew sets out to sea - after being out for a long while - and having a less than the productive result.
This time, they feel, because money has been low - they must go right back out - because they have gotten word that the fishing is good at this moment.
At the same time, a record-breaking tropical storm from Bermuda which collided with a cold front from the Great Lakes is resulting in, 'the perfect storm' - with waves as high as 100 feet, affecting the Atlantic ocean - occurring in October of 1991.
The crew has some major problems after they get the catch of their lives and are forced to take the chance of sailing back into the huge storm to get back home in time to save their catch - unsure if they will survive.
