The story : In Boston , in the 1970s FBI agent John Connolly is assigned to come up with a pliable way to take down the Angiulo mob family.
Then comes to mind a childhood friend of his who grew up in the area in question , James Bulger.
John believes signing James on as an information for the FBI is a good idea , even though his co-workers are hesitant.
After John gets the okay to sign James on ,The only thing he asks of James is that he not kill anyone...
But James cannot help himself and John seemingly goes along with all of it until he exhausted all his options.
