Strait Jacket , William Castles' (1964)

At the time this film was made Joan Crawford was 60 years old, here playing a 49-year-old woman.
She teamed up with William Castle who felt Crawford had the big- star quality his film needed, and he gave her full cast and crew approval.

If Crawford didn’t like an actor, actress or part of the script she had them/it replaced or changed.
She was a large supporter & promoter of Pepsi-Cola and had promised the vice-president of the company a part in this film, although he was no actor. She also made sure Pepsi-Cola could be seen in the film.
During this time in her career, her movie company was marketing her in horror films, which is what they were doing with the big-name actresses that they marketed that were growing older.
Also, you can see Lee Majors in his first-ever starring movie role here.
Made in August of 1963, released in the US January 19, 1964.
The story: A twice-married woman named Lucy Harbin who was born and raised on her family farm which she now owns, returns home one night unexpectedly only to find that her much-younger-than-her husband has taken up with his ex-girlfriend.
On a whim, because she is completely heartbroken, Lucy picks up the first thing she comes in contact with and slaughters both her husband and his lover right in front of her young daughter - who was assumed asleep.
Lucy is quickly sent away to an insane asylum where she spends the next 20 years of her life until her doctors finally allow her to leave, claiming she is stable enough to function on her own once again.
Lucy goes home to her only daughter and soon begins to question her own sanity now - as many unexplained things begin to occur around her and people start showing up missing.
Of course, the only person anyone could ever even think of suspecting of foul play is Lucy.
But, is she really still off her rocker, getting worse and plotting murder after murder??
