The story: Truman Capote, writer of a few novels and friend to many famous people, becomes almost obsessed with writing a true story about a murder mystery involving a family in Kansas.
He travels to Kansas, with a close friend in hopes of interviewing people who knew the family or anyone willing to give him some facts.
At first, he has no luck, but soon the family of the chief investigator of the case befriends him and begins talking.
Then when the killers are arrested and convicted, Capote tries at some sort of friendship with them to get their story, helping him write his 1959 so-called true story.
