The story: When the dead body of a judges' secretary, who just the night before takes his own life, turns up floating - the police search high and low, everywhere and anywhere for someone to arrest for the crime.
Some police find a homeless man who happens to have the recently deceased woman's wallet in his possession.
The man is arrested.
A public defender is assigned to represent the homeless man, who is charged with murder but the man will not speak a word.
Soon his defender realizes that her new client is deaf. and the two begin communicating through writing.
Eventually, the defender is convinced her client is innocent.
Now she will stop at nothing investigating with the help of a juror on the case, to find the real killer.
