This is based on the short story ‘Room 1408’, written by Stephen King.

The story: A cult writer makes his living getting his story ideas strictly from fact, by studying paranormal activity in many public places.
For his next book, he is studying haunted hotels.
He gets a postcard daring him to visit the old haunted hotel room 1408, in New York.
Against the wishes and good intentions of the hotels' management which insists the room is “pure evil” , he is determined to stay his customary one night in the room.
Due to the fact that he has stayed at many places that have said to be haunted and he never actually has seen or recorded anything remotely close to a ghost, he is a nonbeliever.
But in room 1408, he finally finds something that truly scares the hell out of him, from which he may never find an escape.
