The story: When a gypsy caravan opening fairs arrives in a town in Maine and sets up across from the city courthouse, people seem to have a problem with them and make sure that the gypsies are soon on their way away from the courthouse.
A family man/lawyer who loves to eat is working in the courthouse the day the gypsies arrive but doesn't mind their presence.
The next evening, the lawyer and his wife are on their way home from an evening out to dinner with friends when the lawyer accidentally runs over one of the older gypsies while she is crossing the street.
Because the lawyer is in well with the prosecuting judge and the town police, he gets off for his crime scott free.
The town's lack of action taken against the lawyer only anger the gypsies and they want their justice.
