The story: Josie Geller is a copy editor for a newspaper.
She is given the assignment to go back to high school, acting as a student, for a story on high school students in 1999.
Although Josie had a horrible high school experience during her own high school years as the not-so-popular "Josie Grossie", she manages to become popular - with some help from her brother.
