The story : Possibly the most maligned Motown artist , Rick James and his band the Stone City Band were riding high.
The cops were always trying to arrest Rick at every show they did but he always escaped somehow.
When Rick became friends with many of the cops in his hometown of Buffalo , New York he packed up his mansion in Beverly Hills and moved back home.
The cops loved Rick and partied at his mansion often.
When Rick noticed Prince to be the new funky star on the scene he invited him to open for him.
But when Rick decided to create a girl band , Prince created one first.
Then Prince created an all male band and Rick did the same...
Rick was jealous but kept moving forward.
He befriended Eddie Murphy and recorded an album with him , with the first single becoming a hit.
But Rick was in despair about Princes' constant creativity and success.
Prince could be seen on MTV when Rick was refused.
Rick never did break through to the white crowd like Prince did and the lack of promotion from MTV quite possibly became the key to Rick and the Stone City Bands demise.
In the early 90s Rick finally seen a Grammy for his most popular hit 'Super Freak' due to MC Hammer remaking it.
But by then drugs had become Rick's biggest issue.
