Mike Judge Presents Tales from the Tour Bus - James Brown part 1 (2018)

The story : Any exploration of funk wouldn't be right without James Joseph Brown.
He had magic in his shoes and a voice that could cut through all the white noise in the world.
James liked shotguns , gumbo and traveling first class.
He certainly earned the right to be treated like royalty but that didn't always make him happy.
James moved from South Carolina to Augusta , Georgia as a child.
He lived with his father whom his mother left for being abusive and he was raised very poor.
James would dance on the streets for money and later began breaking into cars to steal clothing.
When he got caught he was sent to juvenile detention and there his life changed for the good.
He began playing piano and befriended Bobby Byrd , whose parents adopted James.
The two began their own group and super stardom took off.
When James was flying his highest , he had built his own empire in the music business.
He owned his own recording studio , his management , pressing plant for his albums , two different labels - one for 45s the other for full length albums and many radio stations.
When Martin Luther King was murdered , things changed a lot for James.
He began looking at himself in a whole different light.
