The story: It's 1986 in New York.
Walt and Frank are the sons of professor Bernard and writer Joan.
They believe they are happy until they learn that their parents are splitting.
Both kids have mixed emotions about this and as time goes on, they have less and less choice in what happens to them due to being minors and in care of their parents.
Their dad moves out and gets a run down place where they are to stay half the days out of the week.
But most of the time, when they are at dad's, they long to be at moms.
No matter what goes on with Walt and Frank, Bernard stays in a depressed, dependant state , believing somehow there is still a chance he can save his marriage but Joan continues to move on , growing and changing for many reasons.
