The story: Richard Pimentel did not have a great start at life.
But one good thing he had from an early age was the gift of giving public speeches...
Believing he was good at giving speeches that is what Richard wanted to go to school for.
But money was an issue.
After being turned away from a scholarship and being told to live life first, Richard joined the service and was sent straight into Vietnam.
While there, he, along with his platoon were sneaked attacked.
The result was Richard losing his hearing...
Back in civilian life, Richard was still writing and taught himself to read lips as a way to get by in everyday life.
As a result, he went on to work many jobs where no one even knew he was deaf.
After working for and with veterans who could not find jobs because of their disabilities, Richard was hired to write the first-ever manual for employers, training them on how to hire and work with people who have disabilities.
