The story: Frank Morrison is a humble man who builds wooden boats like his father before him.
He has a young teenage son, Danny, with his ex-wife, Susan.
Frank and Susan do a fine job co-parenting Danny, although Danny can be a handful at times due to wanting his parents to get back together.
Soon, Susan meets wealthy Rick Barnes, who asks her to marry him.
Susan accepts but is worried about how Danny will take the whole thing.
She confides in Frank, going as far as asking him to get together with Rick and Danny to help Danny settle into the idea of his new stepfather.
Wanting the best for his son, Frank obliges, and everyone gets along just fine.
Not too long after, Rick appears to Danny as someone other than he appears to everyone else.
This concerns Danny, making him begin to not trust Rick as he should.
Danny tells his father the change in Rick, but Frank doesn't take the situation too seriously.
Not until Danny tells Frank that he had witnessed Rick kill someone does Frank believe he must intervene.
