Affliction (1997)

Released February 19, 1999 in the US.
Filmed entirely in Canada.
The story: Wade Whitehouse is a policeman in a small town in New Hampshire.
He has some deep-rooted issues, due to the way his father behaved when Wade was a child.
Wade does best these days staying away from his father but his newest problem is not being able to see his young daughter as often as he'd like.
When Jack, Wade's coworker and friend, takes Evan Twombly, a very important man around town, out hunting, and things go horribly wrong, it seems like Jack is at fault.
The more Wade thinks about it, the more he believes Jack is a murderer and he doesn't want him to get away with the crime.
But no one wants to believe Jack is guilty.
As time goes on, Mr. Twombly's death eats away at Wade, changing his personality right before the eyes of everyone who knows and loves him.
In the end, everything Wade knows changes, transforming his life completely.
