The China Syndrome (1979)
Released March 16th in the US.
Filmed in California.
The story: Kimberly Wells is a popular news reporter who would like more important stories to report on.
While working on a piece about alternative energy sources with favorite cameraman Richard, they visit the local nuclear power plant.
While there, Kimberly and Richard witness a pretty serious accident inside the plant.
Richard gets it on film and the two take their footage back to the station but they are shot down when wanting to report on it.
This doesn't fly with Richard but Kimberly sees the chance the station would be taking.
After the higher-ups do a test of the nuclear plant and everything comes back fine the investigation into what happened is excused by a fairly simple explanation.
Later, Jack, a shift manager at the power plant finds some evidence that there is a cover-up going on at the nuclear power plant.
The more he looks into it the more he believes it is dangerous and should be shut down.
