The story: World War II is happening.
Jojo is a 10-year-old German boy who has enrolled in a Hilter's Army camp for kids.
At first, Jojo is all about the camp but when he is ridiculed and then hurt he finds that the camp is not for him.
Jojo instead spends his days at home, alone, while his mother is out and about town.
While hanging around the house Jojo finds Elsa hiding in his deceased older sister's room.
At first, Jojo is scared then his fright becomes rage as he learns Elsa is Jewish and his mother has been hiding her in their home.
Jojo believes telling that a Jewish girl is living in his home is the best idea until he learns that he and his mother could be in big trouble.
Instead, he begins talking with and learning from Elsa, realizing she is human just like him.
