American Gothic (1987)
Released sometime in May of 1988 in the US.
Filmed in Canada.
The story: Cynthia is just being released from an institution.
After a tragic accident, she blames herself for, she is said to be better now.
Husband Jeff is a pilot and has invited some of their friends to take a weekend trip with them via a private plane.
All sounds great and everyone is super excited about getting away until they run into some trouble with the plane and have no choice but to stop on an island no one knows about.
Jeff works at getting the plane up and running again but just cannot fix it so he tells the others they should begin looking around the island for some civilization.
While looking they happen upon a house which they all go inside of.
As soon as they step inside they believe they have time-traveled into a distant time and get a kick out of it all.
Then, the owners of the house arrive.
The owners, an older couple, who like to be called "Ma" and "Pa" are nice enough but a bit eccentric.
They invite them all to stay until they can catch a boat that should be by any day now.
But as time goes on, things get really creepy around the house and then, everyone meets Ma & Pa's youngins' , who happen to be a lot older than they think they are and have an even stranger way about them than Ma and Pa do.
