The story : Eighteen-year-old Daniel Murphy meets twenty-year-old Brandon Bartle during Army basic training.
They soon realize they are both from Virginia and become quick friends.
Their sergeant sees the two have some things in common decides to pair them up for protection of each other as they are soon to be arriving in Iraq.
At a Army Christmas party before duty Bartle meets Murphys' parents.
His mom asks Bartle to inform her if anything happens to her son before she finds out some other way.
Not thinking this would ever have to come into play , Bartle does his best at watching younger Murphys back.
But when Murphy just cannot handle the death and destruction that he is being forced to experience , he sinks into a very dark , dangerous place.
