The story : Bill Bryson is an aging foreword writer who is bored out of his mind.
He has a good life , but he just needs some kind of inspiration.
Out of the blue , Bill decides he would like to hike the Appalachian Trail.
His wife doesnt like the idea and thinks he should not go alone.
Bill calls up everyone he can think of but no one wants to go.
Then he gets a call from an old friend who is more than willing.
So off they go!
