The story : In 1969 Joe Gottfred and Tom Skeeter opened a recording studio.
That studio , located in the valley of Van Nuys , California they named Sound City.
The best thing the owners could do for the studio was purchase a state-of-the-art , custom-made soundboard which was crafted by a man named Rupert Neve.
The board became known as the Neve board and many an aspiring artist as well as well-known artists came to Sound City to record on it.
By the 90s , recording studios began using digital recording methods.
This slowed Sound City down.
It was not until record producer Butch Vig brought Nirvana to Sound City to record their 'Smells Like Teen Spirit' album in June of 1991 did the studio become popular once again.
But by 2011 , Sound City seen its last take.
Dave Grohl admired the studio and its professionals so much that he would have done anything to keep it alive.
The one thing he was able to do was become the new owner of the Neve soundboard.
Dave brought in many greats to his new studio which starred the Neve and made an album dedicated to Sound City.
