The Times Of Harvey Milk (1984)

"Somewhere in DesMoines or San Antonio, there's a young gay person, who all of a sudden realizes that he or she is gay. Knows that if the parents find out they'll be tossed out of the house. The classmates will taunt the child and the Anita Bryant's and John Brigg's are doing their bits on TV and that child has several options. Staying in the closet...suicide...Then one day, that child may open a paper and it says 'Homosexual Elected In San Fransisco' and there are two new options...The option is to go to California...or stay in San Antonio and fight.
Two days after I was elected I got a phone call and the voice was quite young.
It was from Altuna, Pennsylvania and the person said 'thanks'.
And you've got to elect gay people so that that young child and the thousands upon thousands like that child know that there's hope for a better world. There's hope for a better tomorrow. Without hope, there only gays.
But those blacks and Asians, the disabled and seniors...the us'es...the us'es...without hope, the us'es give up.
I know that you cannot live on hope alone but without it, life is not worth living.
And you...and you...and you...gotta give em hope.
Thank you."

~ Harvey Milk
(May 22, 1930 - November 17, 1978)

Released November 1st in the US.
Filmed entirely in California.
The story: Harvey Milk was a small business owner, living in San Francisco.
Nothing out of the norm was his life, although he was a homosexual man, living in a very prominent homosexual area of town.
He stood up for many issues that he felt were freedoms of choice and when he became a supervisor to the town's mayor, he broke some very large boundaries.
Harvey was an inspirational character who held the hearts of his suporters and loved ones in the palms of his hands.
It was a sad day when a disgruntled ex board member took it upon himself to change this hopeful course of history.
