The story: American TV reporter Charlie Cannon and his wife, Larissa, who is pregnant, have relocated their family, which includes their two young children, Katie and Sebastian, to Cairo.
Everything is well until one day, while Charlie is at home with the kids and takes a phone call.
While he is sorting things out over the phone , he realizes Katie , his oldest daughter , is missing from the yard.
He finds out from Sebastian that Katie has a secret friend across the fence in the back of their garden who has been giving her her favorite candy...
But now Katie is nowhere to be found.
Fast forward eight years.
The family is now living in Albuquerque without Katie.
Out of the blue, Charlie gets a phone call that Katie has been found.
The family brings her back home, but she is not the person they once knew.
