Filmed entirely in New York.
The story: Henry Roth writes children's books, along with illustrator/friend Rudy Holt.
Henry has all kinds of personal issues that are mostly associated with women, and Rudy does the best he can to advise his friend in all the right directions.
When Rudy dies suddenly, Henry takes it really hard.
His death comes shortly after the two had pitched a story/book and got the get-go from their publishing company.
So the company takes a look at three illustrators' works' to find a replacement.
Found is Lucy Reilly, who is already working for the company just not in the same department.
She is young, talented, and in great need of a lot of cash and fast.
But after encountering Henry and then meeting with him briefly, she feels she cannot work with him.
The company convinces her that it's working with Henry or lose her job completely.
So she agrees to go ahead with the original plan, while Henry decides he should be less of a dick to her so they can get along.
What ends up happening, neither of them seen coming but Henry's issues keep holding him back.
