Dark Side of the Ring : The Final Days of Owen Hart (2020)
Made for Viceland, airing May 19th in the US.
Season 2. Episode 10.
The story: Owen Hart from Calgary was considered the chosen one.
A naturally gifted athlete, he was the youngest of twelve Hart siblings.
His father was a well-known wrestling promoter and his sons wanted to follow in his footsteps.
All of Owen's brothers wrestled professionally as well as his brothers-in-law.
Owen loved wrestling but he loved his family more and he wanted out of wrestling early so he could just live a simple, comfortable life.
Signed to WWF at 23, he was marketed as The Blue Blazer.
By 1993 The Blue Blazer fazed out and Owen was staged against his brother Brett.
After his win against Brett, Owen became larger than life and his career became much more demanding.
In 1997, Brett went to WCW, and eventually, what is known as The Montreal Screwjob robbed him of his title.
Now that Brett was finished Owen got a brand new contract with the WWF at a time when Vince McMahon wanted the wrestlers to also be actors.
But Owen didn't want to play along with the scandals and skits.
So in 1998, The Blue Blazer was brought back into the spotlight, in competition against the WCW.
On May 23, 1999 Pay Per View aired the live event Over the Edge from Kansas City, Missouri.
Owen was dressed and rigged over the rafters before he was to be lowered into the ring for his match against The Godfather.
But when it was time for Owen to be lowered, something went horribly wrong and Owen Hart fell to his tragic death, from 80 feet up, in front of millions of people...

Dark Side of the Ring : The Last Ride of the Road Warriors (2020)
Made for Viceland, airing May 12th in the US.
Season 2. Episode 9.
The story: They had the look and power.
The Road Warriors, AKA Mike "Hawk" Hegstrand and Joe "Animal" Laurinaitis became overnight sensations.
They were real-life badasses when all the other wrestlers were just trying to be badass.
Both from Minneapolis, in 1977 they both began bouncing at a local club together.
There they were scouted into the professional wrestling world, but not together or at the same time.
Not until after they decided to return to Minneapolis after giving wrestling a try and not making any cash were they finally marketed in the wrestling world as a tag team.
They were also marketed as champions, which they were yet to become.
Japan made them overnight successes and soon the tag team was all over the world as the main event.
By 1986 the Road Warriors were ready to be WWF performers and changed their name to Legion of Doom.
But after an injury, Mike began abusing medications.
Things got bad and the tag team separated for some time, going their own way.
In 1997 WWF had a new marketing idea for them which seemed like it may be a step in the comeback direction but that quickly fizzled out as well.
It was not until Mike decided to change his life around that things were finally going in the right direction for him.
Unfortunately far more damage to his health had been done at that point.

Laurel Canyon : A Place In Time (2020)
Made for Epix, aired May 31st in the US.
Season 1. Episode 1.
The story: Laurel Canyon was a magical place, all above the smog and within four to five minutes, you could be down in Hollywood.
The mid-sixties was a time when folk music was making a change into folksy rock music and Laurel Canyon was a cheap place to live.
It was also a place to get away from the world but be near other musicians.
A peaceful place where at night you only heard coyotes, owls and maybe the faint sounds of some lead guitar off in the distance...
On Sunset Strip was the popular Troubador club which was transitioning from strictly folk music into the newer rock music sound.
The band The Byrds got famous after covering the Bob Dylan song 'Mr. Tambourine Man', with the help of Dylan one night at the Troubador.
This set the club on fire, which inspired many more musicians to come to California.
A time of musical freedom and there were of course people who documented this time with photographs...
Laurel Canyon became a friendly place where everyone knew each other, partied with each other, made music together, and for each other, as well as musical connections through each other.
Music was changing along with the times.
The Monterey Pop Festival next became a historical landmark which no one could have foreseen.
Then, came Woodstock and everyone thought, 'we are all together in this. we are going to change the world.'
But that isn't exactly what happened...
