We get to see his campaigning work while running for sheriff of the town he lived in, work he had done with a few men who ran for president and how his personal life unraveled and then flourished again for a brief time.
His story is told by many people who were close to him as well as through some snippets of H Thompson himself.
We get to follow along with many aspects of his life throughout his career until his suicide in 2005.
